Sam Roberts
Sam fell in love with the Violin after hearing a 7" Oh Canada album when he was just four. He still plays the violin and took lessons until he was 20. When he was 10 he got his first guitar and got caught up with the Mod scene in Montreal when he was 15playing with his first band Northstar. They recieved a lot of play in the College scene, got Much Music feature and hung around in the L.A. doing the demo rounds.

Restaurant likes
This is part of the gig that I like to do. Get an idea of places that the artist likes to eat at as a way of showing what they like to do when they are just being like you and I, as well as promote a Canadian restaurant while I am at it. And the place that both Sam Roberts and myself (Stephen Smith) like to eat at when in Montreal Canada is:

Located on 3990 rue St Urbain Montreal

Sam Roberts
"The man behind the myth"

There are few out there that come off as genuine and down to earth as Mr. Roberts did when Steve Gardiner and I met up with him before his sold out concert at Barrymores Nov 7th. You will get a sense of that in the interview Steve did with him at the Pita Pit on Bank Street in Ottawa.

Sam Roberts see's travel as a way to experience people, cultures and foreign land but also as a way of putting his life back in Montreal in perspective. You get a sense that he loves many things in life, his family and friends, the city he's from and the possibilities and happenstances that occur through events that are inspired with having something that is pure and honest. In my eyes I see him as a young Cat Stevens, someone who has an idea of who he is and what he feels he would like to be or remain as with his impending success in this music industry. Cat Stevens in the end felt that the "charmed life" as a musician had left him feeling spiritually empty resulting in his turning to religion and changing his name to Youseff Islam. I do however think that Sam has more reason to his philosophy and see’s his new career as a way to travel and learn more about the world and himself while enjoying the party that happens along the way.

Sam recorded his Album in Pembroke in at Jordon Zadorozny's studio. Spending his time there over the weekends of a spring month and back and fourth to Montreal gave him room to breathe and hang with good friends which clearly influenced the flow and creativity that you can hear in his music. Other than the odd help, Sam recorded all the drums, instruments and vocals himself. Kind of reminds one of Peter Gabriel and Lenny Kravits. The lyrics sung by Sam Roberts have meaning and elements that support his Albums Title "The inhuman condition". Brother Down, of course the now infamous and much played video on all the Music stations. After listening to the album a couple of times I found it to be one of the most unique sounding CD's in recent memory it's just pure genius!
